This topic always seems to come up, so I thought it would be helpful to point out a few interesting points:
Aren't all potentiometers with the same resistance value (i.e. 500k) sonically the same?
Absolutely not. There are several factors which make certain pots better than others. Many pots, such as Alpha, Bourns and even the lower grade CTS are spec'd at 500K, but with a loose tolerance of +-20 to 30%. That means that a 500K pot with 20% tolerance will still be "in spec" at 400K on the low side, and yes, there is an audible difference between 400K and 500K. Construction is also key. Many lower grade pots use a sprayed on carbon track that will simply wear out quicker than a quality pot that has a solid carbon track...
Hi all. I've been making basic furniture for many years and have collected a whole bunch of tools. Router table, Table saw, Jointer etc.etc.
