Derek and the Dominos - In Concert at the Fillmore

I got a fever, and the only prescription, is more Strat!

I don't know if you guys have heard this before, but alot of people havent I think. There was a "In Concert" double album in the 70s from these sets (of which I have a copy ) and in the 90s they released a cd version as "Live at the Fillmore" with some extended and alternate cuts. Lots of great jams here, the only down side is no Duane, but other than that, this is some of the best stuff you're hear from Clapton IMO

ben, the bottom pic you posted there is the cover of a 2 CD set called Soul Mates. I have a copy, but it is terrible quality. Any idea where I could get a copy that is somewhat clear? I would also love to have the only other CD Duane was on with him, Twin Flames.

Re: Derek and the Dominos - In Concert at the Fillmore

no sorry, the only songs Ive heard from the live shows with Duane are terrible quality, I dont know if anything better exists. If I recall correctly Duane only sat in with the Dominos at 2 shows, and I'm guessing the occurence was random enough that no one was prepared with a good recording setup. I think both shows were in Florida, or at least the south, if they had played at the Fillmore, it wouldve been recorded nicely, some of the best recordings from that era are Fillmore house mixes

I'm pretty sure your right about them both being in Florida.

Have you ever heard this song with Clapton and Allman?

I just looked this up. The first show they did together was at Fillmore East in NY, Oct 23,1970. And the second was at the Curtis Dixon Hall, Forida. Dec 1,1970.

thats surprising that there are no recordings from the Fillmore then.

I have heard that Mean Old World track, very cool, its on the Clapton Crossroads box set, with a few other outtakes that never made it to being a second Dominos album. They were actually in the studio working on a follow up, but do to tensions, drug use and mental illness, they sessions fell apart and so did the band. Theres a few tracks not available on youtube, I think at least one, Mean Old Frisco, features Duane

    wiki says:

"However, Allman did perform two shows with the group at Curtis Hixon Hall, in Tampa, Florida, on 1 December 1970, and at the Onondaga County War Memorial in Syracuse, New York, the following night."

Ok Ben, here is the wiki page. According to this, there may have been a 3rd show.?

This is what I am looking at for the Fillmore recording. But, behind DA's name it does say with Allman Bros. Does that mean he's not playing with them?

I like how it says that in an interview, Duane says all the Fender parts were played by EC and he played all the Gibson parts. But in the pic you posted, they're both playing LP's.

Re: Derek and the Dominos - In Concert at the Fillmore

the 23rd and 24th were the nights that the "In Concert" and "Live at the Fillmore" material came from (which is why, if Duane did play with them at the Fillmore on the 25th, I would assume it wouldve been recorded too)

I think Duanes comment about the Fender/Gibson refers to the album (even though, I still can't always tell them apart, I just assume all the slide parts are Duane) That picture is from one of the live shows, it is very interesting that they are both using LPs. Alot of people who try to catalog Claptons guitars (particularly his Gibsons/LPs) are baffled by this picture, because Clapton doesnt appear with that guitar any other time. You can't tell the color, but from the white plastic it is either a Goldtop or a Standard; the only other pictures Ive seen of Clapton with the Dominos playing an LP are the 2 others I posted with the Special and Custom

I downloaded the whole Studio Jams recordings the other night. What a combo the two of them. I can see why they call the live albumn "Soul Mates"
