It's alright neo, thanks though. I'm probably guilty of hijacking someone's thread as well. And for the record, when I said rhythm guitarist I meant someone like Malcolm Young or Paul Stanley but I see what you mean with the lead guys.

Re: Favorite Ryhtm Guitarist
Thank you!
All my life, 90% of the bass players I met were frustrated guitar players. Almost all the rhythm or second guitarists were frustrated lead players. I've met MANY singers who were frustrated guitar players, and decided to just sing. It's a true joy to play with GOOD bass players who don't wanna play Eruption on 4 fat strings and show their ass to compete with the guitar. Kenny hit the nail on the head because GOOD rhythm players are rare. I wouldn't say I'm any good, but I'm very much content to play rhythm parts and let somebody else rip it up on the solo stuff. |

Re: Favorite Ryhtm Guitarist
Which is?
One guitar doesn't get to play lead? Because the world isn't fair? Because being merely a rhythm player demonstrates obvious failure? Because the band doesn't do the whole contrived Judas Priest thing where both are "equal?" Because the reality is, all guitar players have different skill levels and focus in different music? Two identical twins grow up taking lessons from Satriani and Vai, and at twenty five you can bet they are very different players. In reality very few bands have two lead guitarists, that's for the stage show. Trading licks is great, but somebody is the lead guitar player. I don't know how old you are, but albums I've bought since the seventies of music going back to the sixties often described guitar players in the band as "lead" and "rhythm." Often the liner notes or band member list would note the duties of each member and the names would be followed with descriptions such as "guitars" while the other guy would get "lead guitar" billing. Maybe you're right, the rest of the world is wrong, and all those dusty albums I still own don't exist.... Oh, I'm sorry! What was the essence of your post? ![]() |

Re: Favorite Ryhtm Guitarist
Whatever
![]() If you choose to ignore the fact that guitarplaying can be distributed equally between two guitarists, and that even the dude labelled "lead" plays rhythm most of the time, you're more than welcome to your opinion. I'll stick to mine.

Re: Favorite Ryhtm Guitarist
Malcolm Young is a great rhythm guitarist. In my eyes, he's probably the most under-rated guitarist ever. He even played lead SOMETIMES. Did you know on the studio version of "Thunderstruck", it was actually Malcolm who played the solo, not Angus?
Pretty weird, huh?
