Effects Pedals vs Rack Effects ???
I've always been more of a pedal effects kinda guy ... I know there are alot of great rack based effects but I've always found pedals more user friendly and the quality of having an individual effects pedal as opposed to a rack unit that does many more things at the same time but at less quality appeals to me !!! How do you guys feel about pedals & racks ??? Ohh and what do you use ???

Re: Effects Pedals vs Rack Effects ???
I have gone through both and I just think a good analoge pedal is going to sound better then any rack fx but, a rack in the loop of an amp is going to be cleaner but, that is not better for me in this case

Re: Effects Pedals vs Rack Effects ???
After years of using racks (and spending insane amouonts of money on them, looking for the perfect tone) I ended up selling almost everything: racks, floor multifx pedalboards... and now only use stomp boxes.
As Bobbo noted, they are easier to tweak and most of the time, the sound quality you get is better, regardless of the price of the rack. |

Re: Effects Pedals vs Rack Effects ???
I've been down both roads also, but I've never exclusively used one or the other.
Always been a mix of a small rack with pedals. Currently I have a 4 space rack, one space is empty. The other 3 spaces contain: Furman power conditioner Sabine rack tuner Chandler Stereo Delay Echo Pedalboard in sig.

Re: Effects Pedals vs Rack Effects ???
I always thought racks lacked mojo. I love the look of a multicolored plethora of pedals velcro’d to a dusty mucked up pedal board on the floor at a gig. I also dispise rack mounted amps. Give me a head in a beat up cab anyday.

Re: Effects Pedals vs Rack Effects ???
I have never used a rack and only used a couple of pedals. I like the pedals for the feel of foot control.

Re: Effects Pedals vs Rack Effects ???
my guitar teacher has a rack but I never liked the tone of a rack and I use a pedalboard, I've been talking to my guitar teacher alot recently about tone, he's always been more of "metal" shred guy and now hes getting his PhD in music composition, so he hasn't really looked into tone in his playing career he was telling me he only really went straight into high gain marshalls, or simple racks. The more we talk about what makes better tone the more he finds out that alot of stuff he's bought has been counter productive to good tone.
Sorry that was a long story and I'm sure people will find it pointless. |

Re: Effects Pedals vs Rack Effects ???
no problemo! I think all players should do a little research into guitar tone before getting alot of stuff it saves so much time when you have a clear picture of whats going on before you start buying.

I'd say pedals.
