Elixir and Dean Markley rule ,
I use .11s ernies on my legacy (my guitar teacher says .11s are easy strings
I'm thinking about moving down to 10s but the .11s sound really beefy
erni ball 8s.....im going to hear it now!
D'Addario 10s and Ernie Ball Super Slinky 9s I like nickel and bendy strings
I've heard that the blue steel has an oscillation problem with FR/EMG setups. Know anything bout that?
Ernie Ball 10's. Its all I ever use.
I've gone back and forth with strings.
I've moved up from 9's to 10's on all my guitars. Well, I might go back to 9's if I assemble a parts tele later this summer.
I've been using a lot of D'Addario 10's, but I am beginning to return to Ernie Ball Classic Rock n Roll, and I am considering a return to elixir. I used the poly webs for a while about 5 years ago. Great sound, but I didn't like the flaking. It seems this problem was solved with the nano web.
For acoustic, I'm using D'Addario Custom light but I'm going back to the regular light strings. I don't need an .11 on an acoustic. The Custom lights are well balanced, but my next set of strings are going to be elixir acoustic strings.
I just started using Thomastik-Infeld sliders, and they are amazing. Pricy, but they last forvever. I've done two gigs (about 2 weeks) on my current set and they still sound great. The tone doesnt really change after a while like other strings. They sound broken in (the sweet spot) right when you put them on, and stay that way till they break or you decide they need to be changed.
I love em, I just gotta get some more now.
I've used regular slinkys (.10) for over 30 years, but I just tried the power slinkys (.11) and over wraping. I like them alot, might stick with it of a while.
since i started playing i've used ernie ball. i used to use regular slinkys, but i switched to super's even though my band plays a full step down. when i play they don't sound all wonky but if my other guitar player or bass player touches my babies they sound like crap.![]()
My Gear:
Ibanez RG370DXGP4
Washburn WM-24
HM Strat
Austin LP copy
Line6 Spider IV
Ernie Ball Super Slinky 9-42. Only Ernie Ball for me on electrics. I don't care for the D'Addario sound. Haven't tried anything else and don't care to. My heroes use EB. I'm thinking about moving up to Regular Slinkies though. I've been working my way to a thicker set. I'd like to get some 10s and stick with those.
Ernie Ball Regular Slinkys for standard tuning.. Always.
Not Even Slinkys 12-56 for step down or drop C.
I also like the new Dunlop Heavy Core 12-54 for down tuning.
I prefer Boomers GHS 10's for my non Floyd Rose guitars. and 9's for for my Jackson..
I do usually purchase whats the best deal at the time or when I purchase a big ticket item I have them throw in a 10 pack. Right now in my string bin.
11 Packs of 10's GHS Boomers GBL
3 Packs D'Addario EXL110
2 Packs of Gibson
1 Pack of Guitar Research
I pretty much tried them all except the coated strings which IMHO isn't worth it.
D'Addario EXL 110s since the late 70s. Short period in the late 80s when I switched to Seymour Duncans. Went back to D'Addario when Duncan stopped selling strings. Also used the Kahler version of the XL 110 for a while. Now I just mod the strings myself.
Ernie Ball 008s on my Les Paul, 009s on my Strat, and 010s for acoustic stuff. Been using nothing but for 20+ years, and I only change them when they break!
As far as brands go I only use ernie ball. There is something about the tone they produce thats just fantastic. For gauge right now I am using 10s and thinking about moving to 11s.
I just started using Boomers. I am starting to like them alot. I usually use EB Slinky's, but I figured it was time to try something else. 10's always.
Currently I'm using DeanMarkley strings
Helix 2514 and 2515
DEAN MARKLEY HELIX 2514 STAR - U.K. International Cyberstore
DEAN MARKLEY HELIX 2515 LTHB - U.K. International Cyberstore
I don't have any reason to lie to you - I just do it for fun
My first choice for electric strings are Rotosounds, though I'm not picky, I've had good results with D'addario, Fender, EB, etc (actually, despite being my go-to for a long time, I realized Ernie Balls seems to be not as long lasting as some of the other brands, so now I kind of back of them when possible)
For bass, I just tried D'addarion Chrome flatwound strings, I LOVE THEM, most basses come with roundwounds, and I guess alot of people continue with those (they are good for rock and slapping) because I cant recall coming across flat strings too often before. The feel is great, and the tone is huge and fat, such a drastic change from the roundwounds

On my first guitar I put on Gibson 10's. I didn't know what size it came with but I wanted something Gibson. This was the old black package with the white Gibson logo. Back in the Norlin years. So, on that guitar I stay with Gibson 10's.
On guitars I don't know what gauge it came with I go with 10's. On guitars I do know the gauge I stay with those.
One guitar gets D'Adarrio XL 10's. Another guitar gets Dean Markley Magnum 10's. After I run out that goes to EB 10's. One guitar started with Vintage Dean Markley 9's but now uses EB 9's and I might move to EB 10's. The Fenders get Ernie Ball also. 10's on Fender Strat, 9's on Fender Bullet. While another guitar came with GHS Boomers 9's and I'm still using that for now but that one also might go to Ernie Ball 9's.
Whatever is on sale. I prefer GHS Boomers. 10-46 for my Les Paul and 09-42 for my Strat.
See this post.. Strings... I don't have anymore guitars with FR>
Boomer 11s on Gibson scales, Nickel Rocker 10s on Fender scales, and EB Earthwood Silk&Steel 13 on acoustic.
On Acoustics I use Elixer PolyWeb in custom lights .11-.52 - Or D'Addario EXP Phosphor Bronze .11's-
I use D'Addario EXL110's on a lot of my electrics, but not all. I use 10's on all my Fender scale guitars-
I use DR Pure Blues strings on my guitars with P-90's==SOmething about a pure nickel string and a P-90 that sounds great. I usually use 10's on my Gibsons, but I am going back to 9's after several years of the 10's.
I tend to use D'Addarios on a lot of guitars, but I do have some models of some brands of strings that are used for a particular guitar-
I like the Tone of EB strings, but I do not like how they can practically rust before your eyes-
D'Addario strings are very forgiving as far as corrosion-I like the EXL 110's for Fenders because they are nice and bright sounding and snappy. BUT, I started running DR nickel strings on my custom tele with the P-90 in the neck and a Bill Lawrence noise free in the bridge-It is an 1 piece swamp ash body guitar and it was just a little too bright-It sounds great with the Dr's-
I think I am going to be strictly playing 9's on all my Gibson Scale guitars for a while-
I have no problem trying out different strings on a particular guitar to see what works best on it--
There are a lot of good strings out there. If you dig through my cases, you will find Eb Super slinkys and Hybrid slinkys, D'Addario EXL 110's-DR Pure Blues in 9's and 10's, DR Black Beauty coated strings in 10's- and both Elixer and D'Addario for acoustics-
A pot Pourri of strings at my house-
