I wanna help Gunner out so, here is my step by step EMG 18 VOLT MOD.

Some of ya my know my 2002 Epi Les paul Custom is Uber Modified from the get go, so what else can I do with some time off. MOD IT.
First off this is what I had, stock 9 volt set up. And all you'll need.

As you can see she's pretty hot-rodded to start with.

First off, disconnect the batteries,Then the batteries ground wire at the output Jack.
EMG shrink wraps this from the factory assembly.

    Well its gotta go. ...
I took a razor blade and gently scribed a cut into the shrink wrap, then peeled it away exposing the soldered connection

Everyone fallowing so far? SLICKSTER. STOP TALKING TO BEN AND PAY ATTENTION. ...

With a soldering iron heat and remove the ground wire from the output jack.
Take that same wire and connect and solder it the the RED wire of the new 9 volt clip I bought at my local RADIO SHACK. for $1.00.

Then I taped the connection to avoid shorting out. THIS IS THE ONLY OPEN CONNECTION.....

Now we run the new 9 volt clips ground wire (black) through the output jacks router hole and we solder it to the output jack.

Now all we have is to stuff the two batteries I wrapped in some foam supplied by EMG into the control cavity. I FOUND THAT THEY FIT NICELY IN THE ROUTER LOBE ABOVE THE TONE CONTROLL AS SHOWN HERE. ..

Now all we have left is a sound test, and button her up. ....

Thats it kiddies, an awsome, Cheap, effective mod that you cant screw up by fallowing my simple instructions. ..have fun and

    I wonder what would happen if I 18-volted a pedal ...

Not knowing didly about EMG/active pup's why go from 9v to 18v? Does it make them louder or add any tonal qualities?
How do you rate yourself as a guitarist?
I'm okay; I'm not technically good, but I can make it f-ing howl and move.

It does open up the tonal qualities......makes them less compressed ....there is a noticeable difference ..

    I think a world of difference ......
Ok as asked by Oj5Rock.....I am gonna start my Re-string A floyd thread....
Im setting here at work..I made me a tremblock and gonna try it...made it only by memory of my guitars Trem cavity...so lets cross our fingers....I have a broken string on my Ibanez...and I cant rewind anymore....so no better time then the present....
So be on the look out for it guys/Gals.....
It is, hands down the easiest, and most useful way I have found to string one in the almost 28-29 years of using floyds.... :dude:

Just out of curiosity, have you tried modding a pedal for 18 volts?

Re: I wanna help Gunner out so, here is my step by step EMG 18 VOLT MOD.

    No...Honestly I haven't ....
The specs of EMG'S show they can handle up to 27 volts....
I have never tried to find..nor attempt a pedal....is tempting...
but I can't imagine what Id achieve from it......could be ungastly noise.......and I also use a 9 volt, A/C power One Spot to run my pedalboard...
I never even thought,Or needed to try ....
    If I ran all my pedalboard,EMG'S,and modded a pedal to 18 volt...Id
    Go broke......HA HA HA HA

What pedal are you thinking would benefit ?....just courious
A delay, chorus, Flanger.....I can say an overdrive/distortion would be insane without a killer noisegate......

I'm not sure, I usually use AC power, but Im finding that noisy. Wah and delay are important to have full of juice IMO just a thought, if I was more adventurous I would try it

How are they compared to the .1 micro farads that come with the EMG's. I have a crap load of K40Y-9's and didn't think they would sound sound good.. I also notice you have a treble bleed mod on as well. Why not wiring it 50's style? Are you using 25k pots?

Im using the EMG 25K pots....
The P.I.O's work nice...I just needed the .015 for the bridge cuz it was too muddy sounding... but sounds good at the neck.....
Im not too familiar with the 50's wiring.....I just mod to my own taste...
