This is me going over the rules for my Open Jam. I've had some troublemakers come in.....I shot this video right after the doors opened.

Wow, I can't believe that such strict rules are even necessary. Sounds like you've had some bad experiences.

The Open Jam is getting too big. It has to be run tightly. What tore it for me was 5 things.

1. People weren't following my directions. (Turn down your volume, get your shit off the stage, don't touch the PA...don't touch that, it's not yours.)

2. Newcomers were starting to walk away because other people were bogarting the stage.

3. The volume was too loud.

4. I was nearly electrocuted the week before.

5. One of my important regulars walked off because someone was trashing his equipment right in front of him. The guy is basically my litmus for "how I'm doing".

I don't consider most of those rules anything but common sense. And yeah, they can appeal to the owner...but at the end of the day someone has to be a dick or else someone is either going to get hurt up on that stage or the jam will dissolve.

Re: A Geartalk Video Blog

Time for an update...

First....here's me testing out a GFS Retrotron pickup in an Agile Dauntless. It's OK, not great. (On the other boards I managed to successfully insult most of the GFS fans when they started comparing their pickups to Seymour Duncan! FAIL! )

Re: A Geartalk Video Blog

Next is a video of a DeltaLab MD 1 distortion pedal I bought for 30 bucks at Guitar Denter! Yaaayy!!! (the amp is an '80's model Fender Champ 12. The guitar is my Epiphone Les Paul Custom with Tony Iommi pickups. They actually sounded BETTER in the Epiphone vs. the Gibson Studio.)

Re: A Geartalk Video Blog

Thanks, guys. I know they're pretty lo fi...and I'll admit I'm not consistent with 'em. Sometimes I'll get in a serious mood and do a whole bunch...other times I'll just be completely UNmotivated.

Here's another....this one I posted of my cover band when they were good into their cups late into the night. Honestly? I think the band sounds like crap, the mix was crap. BUT...at the same time I figure it was fair game since the singer advertised it all as "Live recording!"

Well, I got a live recording allright.

I so dig the background vocals in this. ROFL

Soooo....on a side note...took some vids of another band tonight....(OK, I sat in with 'em for a few songs...and I wanted to make sure my band saw what a proper sound mix sounds like through my little camera...)

Re: A Geartalk Video Blog

I'm new on this forum so hello to all. I sort of spoke about this in the Effects forum area too, but the only video I recorded so far is a quick demo of my 'gray spec' DOD 250 Overdrive clone Just after I finished building it. I had posted it on my YouTube page back in May 2010. I'm currently working in an audio clip (maybe video too) with me playing some short Yngwie Malmsteen phrases using a Line 6 Toneport GX to record on my PC. But I did get my wife's cousin Jimmy to playtest my stompbox on his Fender tube amp (I only have a solid state) and recorded this video on my digital camera. He's into bluesy stuff like SRV and the sound quality here doesn't do it justice because the amp volume probably overwhelmed my little camera mic being so close. I'd really like to hear it on a Marshall tube amp with a Strat:

Re: A Geartalk Video Blog

Excellent commentary Sentry. We're already heavily on the downslope of selling used LP's. Saw a gorgeous 2008 R0 on Ebay that didn't even hit $2400.00. It's a great time for buyers with cash.
