2 Amps-One Choice?

I know this thread probably won't get a lot of action but I'll give it a shot! I've been amp shopping for months now. I've been looking at New and Used! I was hoping for a Marshall JCM 800 but no such luck! Anyways I've tried a lot out and I think I've narrowed it down to two amps but they are quite different from each other. I've tried the Egnater Rebel 20 with a 1X12 Cab. Its got some great tone and seems to have almost infinite possibilities sound wise. One channel. I know its only a 20 watter, but man its lound through that little Cab. The wattage control knob is also a big plus since it can be cranked down to 1 or 2 for practice without driving my Mom crazy! Its not cheap in Canada, its about 1400.00 including taxes. The other amp is the Canadian Traynor 50 watt head with 4X12 Cab. It'll go 50 watts in AB or it has a switch to take it to 15 watts in A. This Baby has plenty of power and great tone and wicked Brit/American variation in tone. 2 Channels that are foot switchable! Its about 1600-1700 Cdn. It would be perfect for High School Gigs in large gyms. Its a bugger to haul around though! The Egnater is easy to move around. I've got about 7 days to make up my mind as we have to practice intensely for a Gig that comes up shortly. The Band is a power trio right now (maybe a rhythm guy showing up on Tues) and we're going to try to play some Classic rock and some ACDC tunes. I don't know if there's a great PA system there where we can decently get mic'd up! We don't have a sound guy either. So??? What do you all think. Will the egnater get me through a Gig? Or should I go with the Balls to the wall Traynor? Thanks for your advice.

Re: 2 Amps-One Choice?

When I was checking out the Rebel, I had it on 2 or 3 and had the store manager come over and ask me to lower the volume. As a side note, the head was connected to 2 1x12 cabs. I would be surprised if that 20 watter did not do the job for you. Plus as you said, it's a heck of a lot easier to move around.

Re: 2 Amps-One Choice?

No sweat, I am seriously thinking of picking one of the Rebels up. I think I will initially start out with a single 1x12, then evaluate if I need more. I was also told that the Rebel is capable of powering a 4x12 cab. That could be another option; Rebel 20 and a 2x12 Celestion!!!

Re: 2 Amps-One Choice?

I'm going to try out the Rebel with a 2X12 to see what she can really do. Can't wait for tomorrow!

Re: 2 Amps-One Choice?

Did Marshall stop making the JCM 800 in a combo? I can't seem to find a new one.

Its got an AB/A switch that lets you select 50 watts AB or 15 watts in A. Still very loud in A but no ones called the Police on me yet.
