Which is?
One guitar doesn't
get to play lead?
Because the world isn't fair?
Because being
merely a rhythm player demonstrates obvious failure?
Because the band doesn't do the whole contrived Judas Priest thing where both are "equal?"
Because the reality is, all guitar players have different skill levels and focus in different music?
Two identical twins grow up taking lessons from Satriani and Vai, and at twenty five you can bet they are very different players.
In reality very few bands have two lead guitarists, that's for the stage show.
Trading licks is great, but somebody is the lead guitar player.
I don't know how old you are, but albums I've bought since the seventies of music going back to the sixties often described guitar players in the band as "lead" and "rhythm."
Often the liner notes or band member list would note the duties of each member and the names would be followed with descriptions such as "guitars" while the other guy would get "lead guitar" billing.
Maybe you're right, the rest of the world is wrong, and all those dusty albums I still own don't exist....
Oh, I'm sorry!
What was the essence of your post?
