I'd cover the wall the amp faces... that would soak up alot of it. If that is the wall with the door, then yes sir. Sound is just a wave in the air... the carpet is going to catch that and absorb a lot of it. And you can get creative man... make a project out of it. Here is a shot to make something functional and THE COOLEST THING EVER. Make the GnR logo on the wall...
EDIT**I just had a thought... you could use an attentuator to do the same thing... would Mom spring for one?
